In September 2023, The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) revealed a staggering statistic: in July 2023, nearly 85,000 patients were waiting over 6 weeks for a CT or MRI scan.

As of January 2024, the number of patients waiting more than 6 weeks dropped to 66,190, but the MRI backlog alone had reached 302,640 patients.
